Botanic Garden Trip

Yesterday Year 4 went on a trip to the Botanic gardens. We were learning about our native birds and how people have impacted on birds. Some of the things we found out are....

There are many New Zealand birds that are now extinct. We put pictures of these birds on a timeline and noticed that birds became extinct after the Maori and European people first came to New Zealand as many birds were killed for food, their feathers and introduced predators.

A favourite part of the day was planting our own Harakeke seedlings. We plan to grow look after these and when they are a bit bigger we will pant them around our school grounds so they can attract birds such as the Tui.

The weather was fabulous so we had a wonderful day in the gardens....
